Steam Packet Company announces strong growth in Southern 100 passenger numbers

The number of motorcycles which travelled to the 2017 Isle of Man Steam Packet Company International Southern 100 Road Races was up 12.5% on last year, it has been announced. The Steam Packet Company has confirmed 997 motorcycles were brought to the Island for the four-day road racing event held around the 4.25-mile Billown Course near Castletown, an increase on the 883 carried in 2016. Total passenger numbers were also up, by 4.8% to more than 7,700, as were the number of cars, vans and trailers, with an increase of 4.5% on 2016. Fans were treated to outstanding action at the ‘friendly races’, which saw lap and race records tumble between 10th and 13th July. Over £8k raised for The Children’s Centre at the Microgaming Charity Golf Day

Microgaming’s PlayItForward annual Charity Golf Day has raised £8,006 for The Children’s Centre.With 21 teams entered in total from local businesses, the Microgaming Charity Golf Day teed off on Friday 16 June at Castletown Golf Club (with much better weather conditions than the previous year!). Each team battled it out to finish top after 18 holes. The inclusion of a ‘wild ball’, which could award double points along the course, added pressure to the teams, but also increased donations; teams had to pay £20 for each wild ball they lost! After an excellent round, SMP 2 took first place with 116 points, followed by Old Mutual International (115 points), and SMP 1 with 115 points.
