Castletown’s landmark pub and hotel, The George Hotel, closed on Monday 8th January until the Spring as owners H&B embark on a substantial refurbishment to upgrade and modernise the whole site.
Registered as an historic building dating back to 1833, The George is currently the largest hotel within the H&B group, with 11 bedrooms, including four king-size rooms which overlook Castle Rushen.
Di Edington, Operations Manager, said “We have closed in order to complete this well-deserved upgrade to The George Hotel. As the refurbishment includes the whole building, we are closing to avoid any potential disruption to our guests. Already popular with visitors, especially during T.T and M.G.P, we are looking to broaden the hotel’s appeal to island residents and visitors”.
This development work will include a 4 star upgrade of the 11 bedrooms and a complete refurbishment of bars, toilets, kitchen as well as the outside area. The new function room is designed to be “the perfect location for all types of private and corporate functions in the South of the Island”, offering the advantage of having the rooms above the pub.
Di continued; “As well as upgrading the building, we will enhance our Fine Ale & Food brand in the site and we will also be building on our already popular entertainment nights. The George represents another substantial investment into the Island by H&B and we’re excited to see what a positive impact this will to add to the regenerated Castletown Square”.
The George Hotel closed on Monday 8th January 2018 and will reopen in the Spring. To keep up to date, follow progress on Facebook @thegeorgehotelofficial or online at www.pubsandbars.im.
